Think of a time when you had a really amazing experience. What made it so exceptional?
It could have taken place at a restaurant, a concert, a conference, during an Airbnb stay, or even just at a local coffee shop. Something had to have happened to make it a great experience in your mind. The question is, was it just coincidence or was the experience designed to be great?
The same way a physical product can be designed to be beautiful, intuitive, and simple to use, a home sharing experience can be designed with thought and purpose. When you think of ways to design your space for home sharing and furnished short term rentals, there are a few important steps you can take to make sure it’s setup perfectly.
1. Know your audience
Who are you designing your space for? Are you targeting business travellers with corporate furnished rentals, honeymooners or international visitors? If you have an idea of your target audience, it will help shape the design decisions you make.
2. Be your own guest
As the saying goes, “You can’t understand someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. The best way to do a checks and balances for your space is to be empathetic. Pretend you’re the guest and ask yourself “What do you like? What is comfortable? What you would change and what can be improved?” If you can learn to take this objective approach, you’ll level up your guest experience.
3. Make sure you have all the necessities and nice to have’s
Getting your home ready for short-term rentals can seem daunting and if it’s your first time, it’s understandable to forget certain things. It’s why we created Property Dots, to connect the dots of Airbnb and furnished short-term rental property management for you. If you’re testing the waters and taking management into your own hands, we’ve created a handy checklist of items to help you get started. You can find it here.
4. Keep the space clutter free
The same way too many papers spread out on a desk can leave your mind feeling disheveled, overfilling a space can clutter the brain. As a guest, the last thing you want is to come home after a long day and feel overwhelmed by your surroundings. Keep it simple and your guests will love you for it.
5. Realize nothing is perfect
Ironically, the title of this article is How To Setup the Perfect Home for Short Term Rentals. The reality is, nothing is perfect and there is always room for improvement. Be mindful of this and keep getting feedback, keep learning, and keep trying new things and you’ll get close. And when you ask guests for feedback, it shows that you care.
Whether it’s for corporate relocation employees staying for 3 months or a family staying for 3 days, if you can implement these 5 steps, you’ll instantly improve the way you design your home.
